Maintaining the water chemistry is the most important factor when owning a marine aquarium.  It is important to dose
with a two-part product (or other means) to replenish the necessary trace elements needed by the reef.

 Alkalinity                               Calcium                       Magnesium                       pH
Fish Only Aquarium:          2.4 (meq/I) 6.72 (dKH)                 385 (ppm)                     1155 (ppm)                     8.3 - 8.4

Soft Corals:                         3.2 (meq/l) 8.96 (dKH)                 405+ (ppm)                   1250+ (ppm)                  8.3 - 8.4

LPS & SPS Corals:            4 - 4.8 (meq/l) - 11 - 14 (dKH)     425 - 450 (ppm)          1250 - 1400 (ppm)        8.3 - 8.4

Dr. G has created several products which will benefit your entire reef!

Magnesium - maintaining the necessary amount of magnesium will result in the ability to maintain a higher level of
Calcium and Alkalinity.

Iodine- Many hobbyists dose Iodine.  Iodine has an important function to macro-algae, anemones and soft corals, as
well as enhancing colors and preventing bleaching.  Concentrations of iodine above the natural level however, can
be harmful to the delicate tissues of corals. - (Red Sea. TK-3)

**Iodine levels should be checked and maintained at- 0.06 (ppm).**

Strontium-  This element is vital for strength in hard coral skeleton structures, and overall growth of the coral.

Molybdenum- This element is vital for the biology of invertebrates and plays a valuable role in the nitrification
process.

At Open Oceans we recommend:   Salinity - 1.024 - 1.026
                                                     Nitrates - @ or below 40ppm
                                                     Nitrites - 0
                                                     Ammonia - 0

High nitrate and phosphate levels can be the direct cause of problematic/nuisance algae.  Maintaining a water
change regimen usually combats these problems.  If you are using a quality salt mix, a water change will provide your
aquarium with the necessary trace elements.  After a water change, it is recommended to check your calcium,
alkalinity, magnesium and pH (and adjust accordingly).
**A regular water change regimen of 10% - 20% weekly is recommended (depending on tank size).  However,
hobbyists prefer to complete water changes bi-monthly.**
**NEVER use tap water or well water without filtering it through an RO/DI system.**

At Open Oceans, we recognize the need to keep water quality up to par!  We provide our customers with RO/DI
(Fresh) and RO/DI (Saltwater) that has gone through our own customer system.  We've decided a long time ago to
provide the best and most pure water to our customers!
Our custom unit runs:
double micron, double carbon, custom double phosphate, and double DI.  Our  in-line TDS
meter is constantly monitored, checked, and all resins are replaced once it reaches 5ppm!
Open Oceans is the first in Central Florida to provide a complete line of products, which are organic (Probiotic
Bacteria).  We strive to replicate the ocean as naturally as possible, and we practice what we
teach!  You will see it in
our work!
