Customers comment on our water quality on a weekly basis!
"The tanks are so clean and clear." "How do you get your tanks so clear?" "Everything is so healthy."
"There's no bad breakout of Algae." "Why is your sand so clean and free of debris?" "Why can't my aquarium look like yours?"
We want to make things as clear as possible. Many customers ask the following questions:
Why do I need a skimmer? Do I have to have a skimmer? When do I need to add a skimmer to my system?
Just imagine if someone told you that you had to use the same bath water every day! You could never drain the tub and fill it with
fresh, clean water. You would think twice before doing so, right? It is extremely important that a skimmer be introduced to your
reef aquarium! A skimmer removes (DOC's) dissolved organic carbins/compounds, and proteins. Filters and resins cannot
solely remove these from your aquarium. Although it is true that some hobbyists choose not to run a skimmer on their marine
aquarium, they are testing frequently, performing multiple water changes per month, and have 3-5 times the recommended
amount of live rock.
Why do I need a power-head to move water in my tank? Why do I need water movement in my tank?
The golden rule is to move 10 to 15 times the volume of water per hour. Remember you are trying to mimic the reef! Water flow
is important for many reasons.
*Algae does not like water flow. You will have less algae problems within your aquarium.
*Water flow allows for better gas exchange (oxygen to water contact).
*Water flow bring corals, clams, and invertebrates the food, oxygen, nutrients, and movement necessary to
stimulate growth.
*Strong water flow increases movement among fish, and helps them burn off excess fat found in many
commercial fish foods.
